Legionslager Carnuntum: Ausgrabungen 1968-1977

Between 1968 and 1977, archaeological excavations were undertaken at the Roman legionary fortress of Carnuntum (Bad Deutsch—Altenburg, Lower Austria) by the former Limes Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Austrian Archaeological Institute. Carnuntum was built around AD 40—50 and was finally abandoned in the fifth century AD, so the history of the site is quite representative for the development of the Roman limes in this part of the Pannonian frontier.
