For the first time, the history of Lodz, the second largest Polish city of the 19th/20th century, is told from a multicultural perspective. The city is historically characterized by textile industry. Its rise is the achievement of cosmopolitan German, Jewish, Polish, and Russian citizens. The book analyzes how Lodz was split into national groups in the 1930s and destroyed from within in Nazi Germany.
