The study paints a comprehensive picture of German-Egyptian relations between 1949 and 1965 and also shows the extent to which the Federal Republic's policy toward the Arab states and toward Israel was determined by actors and interests in which ideological convictions and dispositions from the National Socialist era continued to operate. The high degree of personnel continuity, especially in the Foreign Office, provided the prerequisite for this.
