This is not my usual genre; I will admit. However, I found it on my must-read-immediately list. The first few chapters drew me in! Brewed a pot of coffee and settled in the for the long haul. Just couldn't put it down at all!! Like I said, not my usual genre (but sometimes close), but I am a VORACIOUS reader! I have read thousands and thousands and thousands of books; it is very rare when I can't stand to put one down for a few minutes. . . I am not in any way, shape, or form a gushy person, but I will share with you what I posted to the author: "When a good book ends, it leaves you glad you read it. When a GREAT book ends, you are sad to reach the end. Much like a relationship you are not ready to let go of, you are left wanting more . . . GREAT BOOK!" Kudos Mr. Taylor

I think this is a great book. Suitable for probably fifth graders and up. The part that might be to scary for people is when Minerva tells the story about our world changing and what happened to her daughter that night. It was pretty gross and scarier because it happened in our world not the fantasy one.

An Exciting and Intriguing Read!!! I was drawn in by this book almost immediately... As I followed the story line full of great adventures, mystical creatures, unlikely allies, and betrayal... I was only left wanting more. A great beginning to what is sure to be a great series...I can not wait for book two in this series.

This book was so much fun to read I read it in just a few days. It is engaging and introduces some great new creature/species never before seen in fantasy and it puts some twists on old stuff like griffins and how magic works. There isn't a lot of romance just a couple hints here and there. But some of the backstory ripped my heart out. I actually cried at one point. One critique I have is that it took a few pages to get me fully into the story. But once it had me I was hooked. I liked looking up the places mentioned in the book too. This is an all around great story that is fun. I suggest buying it and reading it over the holiday or if you're a fast reader then read it over the weekend.
